D-Size Components have (or take) a 2.25" diameter ball, which RAM Mounts officially say is recommended for holding devices up to 6 pounds (approximately 2.7kg). The D-size ball system is most commonly used in mining and other industries where larger devices need to be held, and where vibration is higher. The larger ball and socket size reduces vibration significantly compared to smaller ball sizes.
